While inspecting the eviction drive on Wednesday (September 30), he said that freeing footpaths from occupation is the City Corporation's responsibility in the interest of city residents. If the drive is obstructed, legal action will be taken.

Shafiqul Islam Khan alleged that during the eviction drive, City Corporation vehicles, journalists and some police personnel were attacked at the instigation of individuals who had occupied the footpaths. Cases will be filed by DNCC and police against those involved in the incident, and measures will be taken to identify and arrest them through investigation.

He said that during the drive, after a fire broke out from an electrical short circuit, three DNCC garbage trucks were set on fire. An excavator and a police vehicle were also vandalized. He also alleged that a mosque was deliberately set on fire.

Stating that legal action will also be taken in the attack on journalists, the DNCC Administrator said that several people involved in the attack have already been identified. Claiming that the common people of Mirpur want the footpaths freed from occupation, he said that if there are attempts at occupation in the future too, ‘direct action’ will continue.
