Home Minister calls for building ‘people’s police’ through professionalism and humane behavior
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed called upon the police to establish themselves as the ‘people’s police’ through professionalism, neutrality and humane behavior. He said people of all classes and professions must be provided legal services and protection, rising above fear, intimidation and partisanship. The police must earn public trust by standing beside people and providing services.

He said these while speaking as chief guest at the passing-out parade of the six-month basic training of the 27th Trainee Sergeant and 43rd Cadet Sub-Inspector (2006 batch) at the historic parade ground of Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi. At the event, the minister inspected the parade and received the salute, and distributed prizes among those who achieved excellence in various areas.

Addressing the new police officers, he said the police uniform and responsibility should not be viewed merely as a job. They must perform their duties with a commitment to ensuring people’s security, justice and law and order. Avoiding discrimination and injustice in professional and personal life, they must remain respectful of the constitution and existing laws. Along with taking action against criminals through impartial investigations, the rights of innocent people must also be protected.

The minister emphasized increasing the use of modern technology, scientific investigation, information analysis and digital forensics to tackle cybercrime, online fraud, financial fraud, drugs, human trafficking and organized crime. He said there are opportunities to work in various specialized units of the police, including UN peacekeeping missions, in the international arena. However, strict action will be taken in cases of negligence in duty, unethical activities and breach of discipline.
