IGP should not have used the word ‘crossfire’: Home Minister
Regarding the comment by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir on ‘crossfire’, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that he used the word carelessly while trying to explain the severity of the law. However, it was not right for him to utter such a word. He said this on Wednesday (28 October) afternoon while responding to journalists’ questions after the ninth meeting of the special committee on constitutional amendment at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The Home Minister made it clear that the IGP did not say that he had received instructions from the government for crossfire or that he wanted to do it himself. Later, an explanation of his statement was also given.

At the meeting, family member of a victim of enforced disappearance and MP Sanjida Islam, Humam Quader Chowdhury and others highlighted their experiences of legal deprivation. At that time, they strongly demanded preventing enforced disappearance by amending the constitution, ensuring speedy justice and rehabilitating the affected families. Law Minister Md.
