In Dhaka's traditional Keraniganj Garments Traders and Shop Owners Cooperative Association Limited, the crisis of legitimate leadership has intensified due to the absence of elections for a long time. Allegations have arisen that after the political changeover in September 2024, several BNP leaders, by showing resignation, assumed new leadership without an election. Although the tenure of this committee ended in October 2025, they are still holding their posts.
Traders have alleged that due to the absence of the association's general meeting and election, accounts of crores of taka in subscriptions and service charges are not matching. Alongside, members have raised allegations against office secretary Saiful Islam of embezzlement, not paying Ansar members' salaries, and extreme deterioration of security arrangements. In this regard, Upazila Cooperative Officer Mohsin Majumder said that although the expired president was given notice three times to hold an election and form a convening committee, he has illegally retained his post by showing political power.
