He said this while speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of ‘World Sight Day 2026’ jointly by the INGO Forum and the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital (NIO&H) at the CIRDAP conference room in Dhaka on Thursday.
The state minister said the money will be spent to deliver eye treatment services to every district and remote areas of the country. Through this, training of doctors, expansion of eye healthcare infrastructure and facilities, and ensuring necessary treatment services will be ensured.
He said under the program, initiatives will be taken to perform 1 million free cataract surgeries and distribute 10 million glasses across the country. Besides, there are plans to bring nearly 20 million people under primary eye care services.
The state minister for health said school students will also be brought under the program. Their eyesight will be tested, necessary glasses provided, and other eye treatment services ensured. He also said ensuring quality and easily accessible eye treatment services for the people is one of the government's top priorities.
The event was presided over by Director of the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital Dr. Syed Mehbub Ul Kadir. Also present were Country Chair of IAPB Bangladesh Chapter and Country Director of Orbis International Dr. Munir Ahmed, Secretary General of OSB Professor Md. Jinnu Rain (Newton), President Dr. Md. Touhidur Rahman, and others concerned.
