There is no benefit in increasing numbers if they do not go abroad with skills: Expatriates' Welfare Minister
Expatriates' Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury has remarked that without skills, merely increasing the number of workers going abroad will not bring real benefit to the country. He said expatriate workers must acquire the necessary skills before going abroad.

He said this on Thursday while inaugurating a trolley service for transporting the luggage of expatriate workers and inspecting the Expatriates' Welfare Desk at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. At that time, the minister spoke with outbound passengers and inquired about their facilities and hardships.

He said he had ordered the prompt establishment of an emergency medical center at the airport to ensure healthcare for expatriate workers. He also announced plans to build a rest house next to the airport to reduce passengers' suffering due to flight delays.

Later at a press briefing, the minister said that even amid adverse conditions such as war in the Middle East, about 434,000 workers secured employment opportunities abroad in the past seven months since the government was formed. He expressed hope that better results would come in the international labor market in the days ahead.

The minister assured that a proposal by the Chattogram District Administration regarding strengthening legal assistance for expatriates would be considered with importance. At that time, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Md. Abdur Rahman Tarafdar and senior officials of various concerned departments were present.
