Country's food stock at record high, strict surveillance on food safety
The Ministry of Food has said that the government food warehouses currently hold 23 lakh 87 thousand 545 metric tons of food grains, which is the highest in the country's history.

In the weekly press briefing on Tuesday (July 21), it was informed that the government has issued the 'Safe Food (Registration and License) Rules, 2026' to ensure safe food. Under this, everyone involved in food production, import, processing, storage, supply, and marketing has been brought under mandatory registration.

In June, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority conducted 84 mobile courts and collected fines of Tk 19 lakh. During the same period, 2,989 food product samples were tested in laboratories.

Additionally, the anti-adulteration hotline 16155 received 2,689 calls in June, of which 34 complaints were registered.

The ministry said that under the ongoing Boro procurement campaign, 4 lakh 22 thousand 606 metric tons of paddy and 10 lakh 21 thousand 75 metric tons of rice have already been collected.

Under the OMS program, 1,195 metric tons of rice and 1,443 metric tons of flour are being sold daily, which plays an important role in stabilizing the market.
