Protest at Jantar Mantar for second day demanding education minister's resignation
Supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) are staging a sit-in at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for the second day, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other demands. Despite clashes, lathi charges, and tear gas shelling by police on Monday, protesters gathered again from Tuesday (July 21) morning.

Protesters said that although a meeting was held with Union Health Minister JP Nadda, no concrete assurance was given regarding their demands. Therefore, the organization has announced that the protest will continue until their demands are met.

According to Indian media NDTV, after Monday's clashes, police removed the temporary stage and tents at Jantar Mantar. However, from early Tuesday morning, protesters began gathering there again. A large number of police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed to control the situation.

Earlier on Monday, tension spread in Delhi following the CJP's 'Chalo Parliament' program. When thousands of students took to the streets, clashes broke out between police and protesters. Police said they used lathi charges and tear gas to control the situation. At one point, a section of protesters reached near the Parliament building.

According to Delhi Police, over a hundred police personnel and dozens of protesters were injured in the clashes. Around 70 people have been arrested in this incident. Cases have been filed against them on charges of violence, vandalism, and damage to government property.

Police claim that the protesters tried to break barricades and disobeyed the instructions of law enforcement agencies. However, protesters allege that police used excessive force during the peaceful program, injuring many students.

Amid the heated situation, a meeting was held on Monday at the residence of Union Health Minister JP Nadda with CJP representatives. There, the protesters raised three demands.

The demands are: withdrawal of travel restrictions imposed on social activist Sonam Wangchuk, resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and compensation for the families of examinees who committed suicide following the NEET question paper leak.

After the meeting, CJP spokesperson Saurabh Das said the minister listened to their statements and assured that the matter would be discussed at the appropriate level. However, no immediate decision or commitment was made on any of the demands. He stated that the peaceful protest would continue until the demands are met.

Meanwhile, social activist Sonam Wangchuk has also announced that he will continue his hunger strike. He said he will not break his fast until the protesting youth are given the opportunity to meet with Members of Parliament or are allowed to meet them while they are in the hospital.

Wangchuk's wife, Geetanjali Angmo, published a handwritten message from him on social media. In it, Wangchuk expressed solidarity with the peaceful protesters and stated that he would continue his fast.

As the situation in Delhi remains tense surrounding the second day of protests, stakeholders are keeping an eye on future talks between the government and the protesters.
