New momentum in dengue prevention activities due to sincerity and coordinated initiatives of administrators: Local Government Deputy Minister
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Mir Shah Alam, MP, said that the cleaning staff of city corporations engaged in urban sanitation must play a more responsible and active role. At the same time, citizens must also be conscious of keeping their own homes, educational institutions, under-construction buildings, and surrounding environments clean. He particularly emphasized conducting regular drives in under-construction buildings and strengthening awareness programs in educational institutions.

He said these things today, Tuesday (July 21, 2026), while presiding over a meeting of the Task Force Committee formed to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, held on an online platform in the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat.

The Deputy Minister said that prevention is the most effective measure against dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases compared to treatment. For this, utmost importance must be given to destroying the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito larvae, and cleanliness activities must be further strengthened.

In the meeting, the Deputy Minister listened attentively to the statements of the city corporation administrators and was informed about the ongoing activities regarding dengue prevention. He provided necessary guidance to make the activities more coordinated and effective based on real field-level experiences.

Mir Shah Alam said that under the visionary leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister, the appointment of administrators in city corporations has created new dynamism in field-level activities. Praising the sincerity, dedication, and hard work of the administrators, he called for conducting awareness activities by involving voluntary organizations, educational institutions, and local people alongside performing government duties.

It is noteworthy that the Local Government recently formed a Task Force to implement the decisions of the National Committee for the prevention of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases at the field level, ensure effective coordination among various agencies, and oversee overall activities. According to the committee's decisions, cleanliness drives, public awareness campaigns, and special programs to destroy mosquito breeding grounds are being implemented nationwide. In continuation of this, regular drives are being conducted in various areas of the capital, and legal action is being taken through mobile courts if Aedes mosquito larvae are found in under-construction buildings and other potential breeding grounds.

In the meeting, Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Ruknuzzaman Rokon, Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury, and Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton were physically present. Additionally, administrators of Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Cumilla, Gazipur, Narayanganj, and Bogura city corporations, along with chief executive officers, chief health officers, and concerned officials of other city corporations, participated in the meeting virtually. Also present were Md. Rabiul Islam, Joint Secretary of the Urban Development Division of the Local Government Division, and Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Project Director of the 'Improvement of Urban Public Health Preventive Services' project.
