Allegations of attack, gunfire, and cocktail explosions at anti-drug meeting in Sujanagar; Chhatra Dal worker injured
In Sujanagar, Pabna, allegations have emerged of chasing, counter-chasing, gunfire, and cocktail explosions centered around an anti-drug awareness meeting. In this incident, a Chhatra Dal worker named SM Aftab Ahmed was injured.

The incident occurred on Monday (July 20) around 6 PM in the Manikdair Tinmathar Mor area of Sujanagar municipality.

After the incident, a person named Anisur Rahman Sangram filed a written complaint at Sujanagar Police Station at night.

The complaint states that a group of armed individuals premeditatedly attacked an anti-drug meeting organized to make the Manikdair area drug-free and ensure local people's participation in overall development. During this, they fired guns and exploded cocktails, spreading panic in the area. Chhatra Dal worker SM Aftab Ahmed was injured in the attack. He was later given primary treatment at Sujanagar Upazila Hospital.

In the complaint filed over this incident, nine people have been named, with Sujauddin Suja, son of Kalam Sheikh of Manikdair village, as the main accused. Additionally, 10 to 15 unidentified individuals have also been accused.

Local sources say that last week, police arrested Shafiul Alam Babu, Senior Joint Convener of Sujanagar Upazila Jubo Dal and former General Secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal, on charges of drug use and sent him for a drug test. When the test detected the presence of banned drugs in his system, the court sentenced him to one month's imprisonment under the Narcotics Control Act, a fine of one thousand taka, and an additional seven days' imprisonment in default of payment.

Since then, a conflict has arisen between Babu's followers and a local anti-drug faction. Local residents said that as a result, a clash occurred between the two sides on Monday evening.

The anti-drug faction claims that Babu's followers fired at them and exploded cocktails. However, Babu's followers deny these allegations and claim that the anti-drug faction, armed, attacked and vandalized their homes.

Injured Chhatra Dal worker Aftab Ahmed said that local drug dealers had been threatening them in various ways since the arrest of Shafiul Alam Babu. They were attacked while giving speeches at the meeting on Monday. He demanded a fair investigation into the incident and punishment for the culprits.

Regarding this, Sujanagar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Lalbur Rahman said that upon receiving the news, police quickly visited the spot. A written complaint has been received, and the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
