Regent's Sahed arrested again

Regent's Sahed arrested again
Mohammad Sahed Karim (Sahed), the chairman of Regent Group and Regent Hospital, who became controversial during the coronavirus pandemic for issuing fake COVID-19 test reports, has been arrested again. He was arrested by police from the ECB Circle area of the capital on Monday (July 20) afternoon.

The arrest was confirmed by Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Hasan Basir. He said there was an arrest warrant against Sahed in a CR (Complaint Register) case. He was arrested based on that warrant. The next legal process in this incident is ongoing.

Sahed came under widespread scrutiny across the country in 2020 for providing fake COVID-19 positive certificates without testing and for defrauding patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

On July 6, 2020, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam of RAB conducted raids at Regent Hospital branches in Uttara and Mirpur in the capital. The raids found evidence of issuing fake COVID-19 test reports without testing samples, extorting money through fraud, and various irregularities.

The next day, on July 7, following a directive from the health directorate, Regent Hospital's operations were suspended and its office was sealed. On the same day, a case was filed against Sahed and 17 others at Uttara West Police Station.

Later, on July 15, while attempting to flee through the Indian border, RAB arrested him from Satkhira. Subsequently, he was in jail in multiple cases filed on charges of fraud, forgery, and other offenses.

On September 4, 2024, after getting bail in all cases, Sahed was released from Dhaka Central Jail. He has a total of 96 cases against him, in five of which he is a convicted defendant.
