Information Minister emphasizes strengthening trade and economic relations with China
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has commented that China can be one of the most important partners in Bangladesh's economic progress. He said the Chinese government is sincerely interested in working to reduce the existing trade gap between the two countries and increase Bangladesh's export capacity.

He made this remark while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled 'Long Live Bangladesh-China Friendship' held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (July 18). The Bangladesh-China Friendship Society organized this seminar with the aim of further strengthening the historical friendship, strategic partnership, and multidimensional cooperation between the two countries.

The information minister said that in the current world, the economy is one of the main drivers of international relations and geopolitics. China's position as an important force in the global economy is becoming increasingly stronger. In this reality, China's importance in Bangladesh's economy and trade has also increased significantly.

He said China could be the most important friend in implementing Bangladesh's economic strategic goals because China has the capability and capacity. At the same time, there is mutual interest between the two countries to further deepen economic and commercial relations.

The minister informed that the current annual trade volume between Bangladesh and China is about 20 billion US dollars. Almost all of this is imported by Bangladesh from China. In contrast, the volume of exports from Bangladesh to China is still less than 1 billion dollars.

He further said that the Chinese government has a positive attitude towards reducing this trade imbalance and increasing the export of Bangladeshi products. Effective initiatives must be taken to expand the country's production, exports, and investment by utilizing this opportunity.
