EC directive to suspend emergency NID services, online applications continue
The Election Commission (EC) has brought changes to the emergency service activities for correcting National Identity Cards (NID). According to the new directive, emergency services for most categories of NID corrections conducted at the Election Training Institute will remain suspended until further notice.

The directive was issued in a letter signed by Md. Saiful Islam, Director (Operations) of the EC's NID sub-division, on Monday (July 6).

The directive states that except for applications in the 'Gha' category, which are disposable at the Director General level, NID correction services for categories 'Ka-1', 'Ka', 'Kha-1', 'Kha', 'Ga-1', and 'Ga' at the Election Training Institute building will remain suspended for now.

It has also been informed that no application that can be submitted online will be accepted in hard copy.

According to the letter, applications of various categories will be disposed of by the respective election officials. Among them, 'Ka-1' category applications will be disposed of by the Assistant Upazila or Thana Election Officer, 'Ka' category by the Upazila or Thana Election Officer, 'Kha-1' category by the Additional District Election Officer, 'Kha' category by the District Election Officer, 'Ga-1' category by the Additional Regional Election Officer, and 'Ga' category by the Regional Election Officer.

Earlier, there was an opportunity for urgent disposal of correction applications for categories 'Ka-1', 'Ka', 'Kha-1', and 'Kha' at the Election Training Institute. As a result, many citizens would go there directly with their applications to get quick service. Under the new directive, these services must be obtained through the respective election offices.
