Amar Desh, Face the People, and Protidiner Sangbad deleted false news of MP Nazrul Islam's arrest
The reports mentioned pictures of Gazi Nazrul Islam and the recent viral video of his personal moments.

Amar Desh, Protidiner Sangbad, BD24Report, Face the People among several media outlets published reports with the headline "Expelled Jamaat leader Gazi Nazrul Islam arrested." However, shortly after publication, Amar Desh and Protidiner Sangbad removed their reports.

Referring to Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) chief Shafiqul Islam as a source, the media wrote, "Police arrested Gazi Nazrul Islam, the member of parliament from Satkhira-4 constituency and a recently expelled leader from Jamaat-e-Islami. He was detained on Monday (July 27) afternoon from the Bashundhara residential area in the capital."

The reports mentioned pictures of Gazi Nazrul Islam and the recent viral video of his personal moments.

However, The Descent's verification found that the person arrested is not the Jamaat-e-Islami MP from Satkhira-4. Rather, Nazrul Islam, the former member of parliament from Satkhira-1 constituency of the banned organization Awami League, has been arrested.

Due to the same name and district, the media published misleading reports.

Multiple media outlets have published news on this. According to the news agency UNB, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested Md. Nazrul Islam, the former member of parliament (MP) from Satkhira-1 constituency and general secretary of Satkhira district Awami League, from the Bashundhara residential area.

On Monday (July 27) afternoon, he was arrested after a raid at a house in the Bashundhara residential area, as informed by the DB to the media. Additional Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB), confirmed the arrest. He stated that there are multiple cases against Nazrul Islam.

Meanwhile, after the news of the Jamaat MP's arrest was published, the media removed the reports. Amar Desh posted on their official page, saying the source of the news was weak and the photo card could cause confusion, hence it was withdrawn.

Regarding this matter, when The Descent ‍tried to contact Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) chief Shafiqul Islam over the phone, he did not answer the call.
