Raising questions about the jurisdiction of the current Constitution Amendment Committee, Shishir Monir said that such an initiative, bypassing the main forces of the July revolution, will in no way be long-lasting. Noting that the context for amending the constitution would not have been created without the August 5 revolution, he said that such an initiative, excluding those who participated in the revolution, carries no meaning other than showing the strength of power.
Referring to the 15th amendment of the Awami League government, this Supreme Court lawyer said that the court had struck down that amendment. He expressed doubt over whether this initiative by those through whom an attempt is being made to amend the constitution, excluding the revolutionaries, will survive—he expressed doubt over that.
