Rape and murder of child Ramisa: Trial of Sohel and his wife begins June 1
The court has set June 1 for hearing on framing of charges in the case of the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka. Court officials said the trial may begin on the same day after the charges are framed.

On Sunday (May 24) afternoon, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Suppression Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin took cognizance of the charges against the accused and issued this order.

Earlier, today at noon, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman of Pallabi Police Station, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka, accusing the killer Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque accepted the charge sheet and ordered the case to be transferred for trial.

According to case sources, Ramisa was a second-grade student at Popular Model High School. Last Tuesday (May 19), around 9:30 AM, when she came out of her room, Swapna lured her inside her room. Around 10:30 AM that day, her mother started searching for Ramisa to send her to school. At one point, she saw the child's shoes in front of the accused's room. After calling out and getting no response, Ramisa's parents and other flat residents broke the door and entered, finding Ramisa's headless body on the bedroom floor and her head inside a large bucket in the room. Upon receiving a call through the national emergency service 999, police arrived at the scene and took Swapna into custody. With the help of information technology, police were able to arrest Sohel Rana from in front of Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj district.

The next day, on Wednesday, the victim's father, Abdul Hannan Mollah, filed a case as the plaintiff at Pallabi Police Station. The arrested accused Sohel Rana confessed to the crime in court that same day. In his confession, the killer stated that he had taken yaba pills before the incident.

In his confession, Sohel Rana said that on May 19, around 9:30 AM, when Ramisa came out of her room, his wife Swapna Akhter took her inside their room. Then, taking her to the bathroom, Sohel raped little Ramisa. The child lost consciousness. Meanwhile, her mother started knocking on the door. At that time, Sohel killed her by slitting her throat. To dispose of the body, he cut off her head from the neck with a sharp knife. He partially severed both arms from the shoulders and placed the body under the bed after bringing it from the bathroom to the bedroom. He also mutilated her genitals with the knife. His wife was in the same room during the incident. Later, he cut the window grille and fled. This accused, who engaged in perverse sexual acts after consuming drugs, told the court that he had no prior enmity with the victim's family.
