The High Court has granted bail to Jamaat-e-Islami leader, former MP and valiant freedom fighter Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman in a case filed over allegations of obstructing government work and misbehaving with officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Today Sunday (1 November), a High Court bench led by Justice K M Zahid Sarwar granted his bail. Earlier, on 26 October, Dhaka's Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-5 rejected his bail application.
The case statement said that the case was filed as a consequence of tension over mismanagement at Shahjalal International Airport on 1 October, such as a shortage of luggage trolleys, delays in getting luggage, and not getting Zamzam water. On 2 October, DB arrested Akhtaruzzaman from his house in the DOHS area of the capital's Cantonment. Later, after one day's remand, he was sent to jail on 4 October.
