Local Government State Minister urges building a healthy generation by washing hands and following hygiene
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said that a healthy generation can be built through the habit of washing hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet and by following personal hygiene. He said this while speaking as chief guest at an event held at the auditorium of Banani Bidyaniketan School and College in the capital on Wednesday (October 28) marking 'World Handwashing Day-2026'.

Addressing the students, the State Minister said that regular handwashing is very important to prevent diarrhea and foodborne diseases. If there is no opportunity to wash hands while eating outside, he advised using hand sanitizer. At this time, mentioning the water supply situation in the capital, he said that Dhaka WASA supplies about 314 crore liters of water daily, 74 percent of which is groundwater. To reduce pressure on groundwater and avoid earthquake risks, a project has been undertaken to supply another 100 crore liters of water from the Padma River to the capital within the next 6 to 12 months.
