Government getting strict on pesticide control to ensure safe food: Agriculture Minister
Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin ur Rashid has said that the government will take strict measures in the import, marketing and use of pesticides to ensure safe and quality food for the people. He said this while speaking as chief guest at a seminar organized by 'Bangladesh Society for Safe Food' at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) auditorium in the capital on Sunday (October 25).

The agriculture minister said, many pesticides are being imported and used in the country, which are not prevalent in many countries of the world. Therefore, effective control will be established by reviewing the existing policies and testing system for pesticide imports. The government has already formed several committees to prevent health risks to farmers and harmful pesticide residues in food. He emphasized not only increasing production, but also providing technical training to farmers and following good agricultural practices to make food safe and nutritious.
