China's technology more needed than money for jute sector development: Jute Minister
Commerce, Industry, and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said that advanced technology and research cooperation are more necessary than financial investment for the development of Bangladesh's jute sector. He said this on Sunday (October 18) at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) and China's Jiangnan University at the Ministry of Commerce.

At the event, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Md. Zahid Hossain and Dean of Jiangnan University Professor Ma Pibo signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam was present at the time. Under this agreement, the two institutions will work jointly on the diversified use of jute, improved seed production, increasing yield, and the application of technology in the textile sector.

The Jute Minister said Bangladesh wants to export high-value diversified products instead of remaining limited to exporting raw jute or yarn. To this end, long-term partnership with Chinese research institutions is essential to increase capacity from seed production to processing. He also said that the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) and JDPC will be directly connected with the laboratories of the Chinese university.

The Chinese delegation expressed interest in establishing a joint laboratory to ensure the application of research in the industrial sector and building an integrated research platform with institutions such as Dhaka University and BUTEX. State Minister Md. Shariful Alam said that through this cooperation, it will be possible to provide training to small and medium entrepreneurs in modern production and design, which will increase the competitiveness of the country's jute sector in the global market.
