On Thursday, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni placed a proposal in the National Parliament to form the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Defence. The proposal was later passed by voice vote.

As chairman of the committee, Md. Ashraf Uddin will lead parliamentary oversight of the activities, policies and various programmes of the Ministry of Defence.

The other members of the committee are—Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni, S M Jilani of Gopalganj-3 constituency, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu of Shariatpur-3 constituency, Abdus Salam Azad of Munshiganj-2 constituency, Reza Ahmed of Kushtia-1 constituency, Lutfar Rahman of Cox's Bazar-3 constituency and Col. (retd.) Abdul Baten of Dhaka-16 constituency.

Md. Ashraf Uddin was elected as the BNP-nominated candidate from the Narsingdi-5 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election.
