Only eligible persons can participate in local elections: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin has commented that local elections are not partisan elections. He said, according to law, those who are eligible can participate in local elections.

He said this in response to questions from journalists on Wednesday (September 9) after a training session at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital to enhance the efficiency and capacity of police in performing election duties.

In response to a question about whether Awami League, whose activities are banned, can participate in local elections, the CEC said that only eligible persons will get the opportunity to participate in the election as per law. He informed that the schedule for local elections will be announced very soon.

The CEC said, no illegal instructions will be issued from the Commission regarding the election. The experience of the administration in the national elections will also be applied in the local elections. To reduce violence, surveillance at the field level will be increased, and CCTV cameras will be installed at polling centres.

At this time, IGP Md. Ali Hasan Fakir said, police will perform election-time duties according to the instructions of the Election Commission.
