On Tuesday (September 1) afternoon, the incident occurred in the imam's room of Al-Aqsa Akan Bari Jame Mosque in Hogolpatia area of Jhaudi union.
Local residents and police sources said the imam was not in the room at the time of the explosion as he had been ill for the past five days and was undergoing treatment in Dhaka. The key to the room is with the muezzin and several members of the mosque committee.
Police visited the scene and collected evidence. Initially, looking at the evidence, police suspect it could be a bomb explosion. However, who kept the explosives and how the explosion took place is still not confirmed.
Madaripur Sadar police station OC Abul Kalam Azad said, "The tin fence of the room was damaged in the explosion. No casualties occurred. Looking at the evidence, it is initially suspected that a bomb had been placed there. Police are working to identify those involved."
