67 MPs oppose initiative to assign development oversight role to reserved women MPs
Sixty-seven elected MPs have protested the initiative to give MPs from reserved women's seats the responsibility to monitor or coordinate development work in the respective constituencies of elected MPs.

They sent a letter to the Speaker on August 23 expressing written objection to the matter. It came into discussion when Supreme Court lawyer Shishir Monir published the matter on social media.

In the letter, the MPs claimed that under the Constitution and existing laws, there is no scope to give MPs from reserved women's seats the responsibility of overseeing directly elected members of parliament of any constituency. They also noted that such an initiative could be in conflict with parliamentary conventions and the constitutional framework.
