Mahmudur Rahman claims it was a mistake for July revolutionaries to join the government
Mahmudur Rahman, editor of the Amar Desh newspaper, said that the biggest mistake was that several revolutionaries joined the government after the July mass uprising. According to him, instead of participating in the government in the post-revolution period, they should have established the 'July philosophy' from outside and built a revolutionary political force.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized on Thursday at the Engineers Institution, Bangladesh, in memory of the engineers martyred in the July mass uprising.

Mahmudur Rahman said that due to the decision of the revolutionaries to become part of the government in the post-revolution period, they now have to bear the responsibility for various failures alongside their successes. In his words, working from outside to establish the ideological foundation of state change and the 'July philosophy' would have been more effective.

He cited the example of the Cuban revolution, saying that the revolutionary leadership there built their own political structure. He commented that in the case of Bangladesh, there was also an opportunity to build a similar revolutionary political force.

However, he described the decision to choose Muhammad Yunus as the head of the interim government as correct. He claimed that at that time, there was no alternative to Dr. Yunus to lead the country.

Mahmudur Rahman further said that he has considered the July events as a 'revolution' from the very beginning. According to him, it was not just a movement for government change, but was carried out with the aim of changing the state system.

Paying tribute to the July martyrs, he said their sacrifice will never be in vain and the nation will remember them.

He called upon the youth who participated in the July movement to remain united. He emphasized staying together based on the ideals of the 'July revolution' rather than being divided by different organizations or identities.

In his speech, he further claimed that the July movement had three special characteristics: it was unarmed, free from direct foreign influence, and led by the collective leadership of the participants rather than a single leader.
