He made the remarks in response to questions from journalists after the 'Award and Recognition for Police Courage and Commendable Work' event held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat on Sunday (July 26).
The Home Minister said, there is a provision for six months of security benefits for the former President as per law. During this time, he will receive security from the Special Security Force (SSF), President Guard Regiment (PGR), and police, along with other relevant agencies. The facilities he is entitled to by law will be ensured.
In response to a question about demands for the arrest of the former President, he said political parties have the right to express opinions. However, the government currently does not see any such matter that warrants attention.
He further said, Md. Shahabuddin submitted his resignation to the Speaker citing health reasons as per the constitution. After the Speaker accepted it, the Acting President is performing duties according to constitutional provisions. The entire process has been completed in accordance with the law and constitution.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, while serving as President, he enjoyed immunity and constitutional protection as per the constitution. Whatever the law says regarding the period of service will apply.
When asked about various reports published regarding the conversation between the former President and Sheikh Hasina, the Home Minister said the government has no information to support such claims. He said, in the current age of communication technology, there can be various discussions on such matters, but the government does not have any reliable information on this.
When asked about any allegations during the former President's past administrative service, the Home Minister said if there is any complaint or case according to law, it will be resolved according to existing laws and regulations.
