If the President wants to resign, there is provision in the constitution, the government has no comment: Home Minister
Amid ongoing discussions about the possible resignation of President Md. Sahabuddin, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that if the President wants to resign for any reason, including health issues, there is provision in the constitution. However, no formal statement has been made by the government on this matter.

He said this in response to a question from journalists on Thursday (July 23) afternoon.

Regarding the rumors of the President's resignation, the Home Minister said, ‘Rumors are just rumors. If it happens, we will see.’

Meanwhile, a media report claimed that President Md. Sahabuddin is considering resigning due to health reasons and is interested in going to Singapore for advanced treatment. The report also said that he has informed senior officials of Bangabhaban and close associates about his personal intention.

However, no formal statement has been issued by the government so far regarding the President's possible resignation or health condition.

Earlier, citing several senior ministers of the government, various media reported that the President is the constitutional head of the country. As long as he remains in office, his constitutional relationship with the government will continue. And if he resigns, the process of filling the vacant position will be followed according to the constitution.

The report also claimed that the President's physical condition has deteriorated and he recently underwent a health check-up at the Combined Military Hospital. However, no formal confirmation of this information has been received from Bangabhaban or the government.

According to the constitution, if the President voluntarily resigns, arrangements are made for the discharge of duties until a new President is elected through the prescribed constitutional process.
