Corruption of 140 crore taka in 2022 in the name of showing the World Cup
Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has alleged that during the Hasina government in 2022, corruption of 140 crore taka took place in the name of broadcasting the World Cup football. He claims that this time, an initiative has been taken to complete the same broadcast within 4 to 5 crore taka.

The Information Minister said these things at a press conference organized at the Department of Information in the Secretariat on Sunday (July 19).

Zahir Uddin Swapan said that in 2022, in the name of showing the World Cup football, 140 crore taka of the state was transacted in the name of Toma Construction. He alleged that the money was looted.

He further said, “This time we have done the same work within 4 to 5 crore taka. We are also negotiating with the concerned authorities to reduce it further. I hope there will be no cost to the government.”

Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed, along with senior officials of Bangladesh Television (BTV) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, were present at the press conference.
