They were arrested around 1:00 AM on Saturday (July 5) during a raid in the Aotapara Bazar area of Sahapur Union in Ishwardi Upazila.
Superintendent of Police Md. Sufi Ullah provided this information at a press conference held at the Pabna Police Superintendent's office on Sunday afternoon.
The arrested individuals are—Ikbal Hossain Iman (31) from Niamatpur Purba Para village in Pabna Sadar Upazila, Nazmul Hasan (30) from Ratanpur Bhabanipur village, Sajib Mandal (27) from Kathalbariya village in Ishwardi Upazila, Tushar Imran (33) from Char Salimpur village, Joni Islam (30) from Aotapara village, Ratan Islam (19), and Sajadur Rahman (21).
Police said that based on a tip-off, a special team of DB conducted a raid at the NCDP Goars Market in Aotapara Bazar. At that time, several people present there tried to flee upon seeing the police, but they were arrested.
Based on information provided by the arrestees, a functional foreign pistol, a magazine, and five rounds of fresh bullets loaded in the magazine were recovered from under a chair at the scene.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said they had gathered there and the recovered weapon was in the possession of Ikbal Hossain Iman. Sensing the presence of police, they left the weapon under the chair while fleeing. They could not show any valid license or documents for the weapon.
Two separate cases have been filed at Ishwardi Police Station against the seven arrestees in connection with the incident. Police said they were later sent to jail through the court.
