The ceremonies are scheduled to begin on July 4 in Tehran and Qom. His burial will take place on July 9 in Mashhad, Khamenei's birthplace in the northeastern part of the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei was born on April 19, 1939, in Mashhad, northeastern Iran, and was martyred on February 28, 2026. He was 86 years old at the time of his death. He played a significant role in the changed governance system after the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979. He briefly served as Minister of Defense in 1980. After the start of the Iran-Iraq war, he became the supervisor of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was elected President of Iran. Following the death of Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989, the Assembly of Experts elected him as Iran's Supreme Religious Leader.
After attending the funeral, the Speaker is expected to return to the country on July 4.
