Government working to develop new rice varieties to tackle climate change challenges: Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister

Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has said that the government is prioritising research-based agricultural development to develop new rice varieties to address the risk of declining agricultural production due to climate change. He said that BRRI Dhan-118 will be released for the haor region next season. This cold-tolerant rice variety will create scope for early planting and early harvesting. As a result, farmers will be able to bring the crop home before sudden floods, and losses will significantly reduce.
