He said these things to journalists after a fish fingerling release ceremony at the Shibganj Upazila Parishad pond in Bogura on Friday (September 11) morning. The state minister said that according to law, there is no scope for Awami League to hold meetings and rallies or run party offices. If the law is violated, law enforcement agencies will take necessary action.
Speaking about local government elections, Mir Shah Alam said that during the previous regime, the country's democratic institutions and electoral system were damaged. One of the main responsibilities of the current government is to complete five local government elections in a free, fair and impartial manner. For this, nearly Tk 6,000 crore has been allocated in the budget and the Election Commission is making necessary preparations.
He said that under the amended law, this time there will be no scope to use party nominations or national symbols in local government elections. The elections will be held on a non-partisan basis and with common symbols. However, to maintain party discipline at the field level, BNP has made a policy decision to support a single candidate. If there are multiple candidates, efforts will be made to reach a local consensus.
Regarding the progress of major development projects, including Bogura EPZ, airport, and Bogura-Sirajganj railway, the state minister said that the government has been in office for only six months. Implementing major projects takes time in the administrative process. However, he expressed hope that visible progress in these projects will be seen by December.
Earlier, he inaugurated the program by releasing fish fingerlings at the Shibganj Upazila Parishad pond under the revenue sector of the 2026-27 fiscal year. Later, he visited a talent search examination center for teachers and students in the Mokamtala area of Shibganj. He also said school buses will be distributed to two educational institutions to ensure safe transportation for students.
