Plan to establish a large production center in the textile and jute sectors in Bangladesh

Turkey's Sanko interested in investing $300 million in Mirsarai industrial area
Turkey's leading textile company Sanko has expressed interest in making a major investment in Bangladesh's textile and jute sectors. The company wants to invest about $300 million (30 crore dollars) in the Mirsarai industrial area to build an integrated textile production facility.

Today, at a meeting between a delegation from Sanko and Minister Khondkar Abdul Muktadir, who oversees the Ministries of Commerce, Industry, and Textiles and Jute, at the Secretariat, this investment plan was announced. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam was present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Sanko representatives said that based on their existing business relations in Bangladesh and the demand from international buyers, they are keen to increase local production capacity. Currently, the company supplies textile products from Turkey, but due to Bangladesh's promising market, skilled workforce, and export capabilities, it plans to set up production in the country.

The Sanko delegation said that the proposed project will include fabric production, fabric processing, and manufacturing of high-value (value-added) textile products. This will further enhance the capability to produce quality products in Bangladesh's readymade garments and textile sectors.

The company's representatives said they have several key international buyers in Bangladesh. Once the local production facility is operational, it will be possible to attract new international buyers to Bangladesh. At the same time, existing textile factories in the country will benefit through technology, skills, and market expansion.

They further informed that potential sites have already been selected and discussions held with partners for the project's implementation. Once the necessary approvals and infrastructure facilities are ensured, the next steps will be initiated within the next few months. After construction begins, the project is expected to be operational within approximately 12 to 18 months.

At the meeting, Sanko sought cooperation in ensuring fuel facilities, gas connections, electricity supply, and necessary government approvals quickly. They stated that in modern textile production, environmentally friendly technology and sustainable production systems are very important. According to the demands of international buyers, they are also giving importance to coal-free and environmentally friendly fuel management.

Sanko representatives said that a modern textile production center will not only create investment and employment, but will also help move Bangladesh's textile sector from basic production to manufacturing high-value products.

They further said that if such initiatives are implemented in rural and industrial areas, the local economy will be strengthened and a new benchmark for producing international standard products will be set. A successful project will also encourage other entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh.

At the meeting, Minister Khondkar Abdul Muktadir highlighted the investment potential in Bangladesh and assured Sanko of necessary cooperation. He said the government is encouraging foreign investment in the country's industrial sector and is working to ensure necessary support for investors.

If Sanko's investment plan is implemented, concerned parties hope it will create a new chapter of new technology, employment, and increased export capacity in Bangladesh's textile and jute sectors.
