On Sunday (July 26), a High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Md. Rezaul Karim issued this rule.
At the same time, the court also sought to know why a separate 'Mobile Financial Service Act' should not be enacted to ensure reasonable, fair, and affordable service charges, especially for the poor and banking-unserved population.
The rule also emphasized ensuring consumer protection and strengthening accountability of mobile financial service (MFS) providers.
The court ordered the Finance Secretary, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and other relevant respondents to respond to the rule within four weeks.
Advocate Obaidullah Al Mamun Sakib argued on behalf of the petitioner in court. As a conscious citizen and consumer, he himself filed this writ petition with the High Court.
