People disappointed with government's stance on referendum: Hasnat Abdullah
Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer (southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Member of Parliament from the Comilla-4 constituency, said that the government's failure to change its position on the referendum has created disappointment among the general public. He also commented that the employment crisis, rising prices of daily necessities, and prolonged load shedding have made life miserable.

He made these remarks during a street rally after a march organized as part of the NCP's month-long program 'July Uprising to Build the Country' marking the second anniversary of the July mass uprising, held at the Baitul Amin Chattar in Chandpur city on Saturday (July 11) afternoon.

Hasnat Abdullah said that the government had promised to create employment within six months of taking office, but no visible progress has been seen in its implementation. As a result, the unemployment problem persists.

Regarding the fuel and electricity situation, he said that although the government increased fuel prices citing the impact of the war situation involving Iran, there has been no desired improvement in electricity supply. Load shedding continues. He also termed the committee formed for fuel price adjustment ineffective and alleged that it has failed to play an effective role in controlling the syndicate in the fuel sector.

Regarding the referendum, he claimed that the majority of the people in the country were in favor of a referendum. However, the government did not reflect that expectation. Criticizing the government on this issue, he said that the lack of reflection of actual public opinion has created discontent among the people.

He further said that due to the worsening flood situation in several areas of the country, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts, party leaders will shorten the scheduled programs and head to the affected areas.

The street rally was presided over by the convener of the district NCP, Md. Mahbub Alam. It was attended by party joint convener Ali Ahsan Junayed, joint member secretary and Comilla divisional organizational secretary Md. Ataullah, joint chief coordinator Mahbub Alam, joint member secretary Mohiuddin Roni, along with central and local leaders. Leaders and activists from the district, upazila, and various levels also participated in the program.
