In a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday (July 4), Sohel Taj wrote, 'The ego or arrogance of one person can destroy a country and a political party, and proof of that is former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family.'
He further claimed, 'Genocide, enforced disappearances, murder, corruption, destruction of democracy, and misuse of the spirit of the Liberation War have led to betrayal of the country and its people. The Awami League has been destroyed, and after fleeing the country in the face of the student-public movement, huge amounts of money have been smuggled abroad, and now by announcing a return to the country, party activists are being pushed into further danger.'
Earlier, on June 28, in an interview with Indian media NDTV, Sheikh Hasina said that she would return to the country within this year, overcoming all obstacles and conspiracies.
In the interview, she said that her return is not a matter of personal ambition; rather, it is related to re-establishing the political rights of the people of Bangladesh, democracy, the rule of law, and the spirit of the Liberation War.
However, the allegations raised in Sohel Taj's Facebook post are his personal statements. No formal response from Sheikh Hasina or any concerned party regarding these allegations was immediately available.
