Chief Whip calls for responsible journalism in national interest
Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Mani has called upon journalists to play a united and responsible role in protecting the country's democracy, independence, sovereignty and national interest. He said the media must take a truthful and conscious stance on matters of national interest.

He made these remarks at a post-budget press conference for the fiscal year 2026-27 held at the National Parliament's LD Hall on Thursday (July 2).

The Chief Whip said that just as neighboring countries take a united stance on matters of national interest, Bangladesh also needs such a responsible role. Addressing journalists, he said, "It is your responsibility to present the truth to protect the country's democracy, independence and sovereignty."

He said the young generation of the country ended autocratic rule through the July movement, which is a message of hope for the country. Therefore, everyone must remain vigilant against anti-state propaganda.

Regarding budget implementation, Nurul Islam Mani said both the government and the opposition have shown a positive attitude towards implementing the budget, which is encouraging for the country. The goal is to position the economy through the next five budgets so that a surplus budget can be formulated in the future.

He said the current government, despite inheriting a challenging economy, is trying to bring relief to the lives of ordinary people. The government is working tirelessly to strengthen the country's development and economy.

The Chief Whip further said that people can now express their opinions much more freely than before. To maintain this environment, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is performing state duties day and night and working for the welfare of the country's people.

Addressing journalists, he said they must be partners in the positive changes in the country. He said many fake and misleading pieces of information are being spread using artificial intelligence on social media. He urged everyone not to believe any information without verification and to trust mainstream media.

He further said that negative news gets more attention in society than positive initiatives. However, effective initiatives taken for the welfare of the people need to be highlighted with importance.
