On Tuesday (September 1), a notification to this effect was issued by order of the President from the Organization-1 branch of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in accordance with Section 6(1) of the Islamic Foundation Act, 1983.
Islamic Foundation forms new Board of Governors, three scholars added
According to the notification, the Minister of Religious Affairs will remain chairman of the board by virtue of office. In addition, the UGC Chairman, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University, Chairman of Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board and Director General of Islamic Foundation will serve as governors. The Director General will be the member secretary of the board.
Two members of parliament nominated by the government have also got duty as governors. They are Mohammad Shamim Kaisar, State Minister for Religious Affairs and member of parliament from Gaibandha-4 constituency, and Shahjahan Chowdhury, member of parliament from Cox's Bazar-4 constituency.

In addition, as previous members of the board are Secretary General of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh Maulana Mahfuzul Haque and Principal of Chormonai Ahsanabad Rashidia Kamil Madrasa Maulana Syed Md. Mossaddek Billah Al-Madani.
The notification said, the tenure of governors other than those appointed by virtue of office will be three years from the date of issuance of the notification. However, they will continue to perform duties until new governors are appointed after the end of the term.
It was also stated in the notification that if the government considers necessary, it can change or declare vacant the positions of governors other than those appointed by virtue of office at any time.
