Load shedding to reduce within a very short time: PM's information adviser

He said this during a press briefing organized on the progress of various government activities on Tuesday (1 September).

Zahid Ur Rahman said that at present, the burden of the power crisis is being shared relatively evenly between urban and rural areas. In the past, to ensure electricity supply in Dhaka, rural areas faced more load shedding, but the current government has moved away from that policy.

He said the current crisis has been caused by fuel shortage, mechanical faults in power plants, maintenance, limitations in the transmission grid, and rapidly increasing electricity demand. Although everyone has had to suffer more or less due to the crisis, it will not be long-lasting.

Mentioning the steps taken by the government, he said that in the areas under DPDC and DESCO in Dhaka, load shedding is being adjusted as needed and the electricity saved is being redistributed to various areas of the country. This is improving the electricity supply situation for important consumers, including industries outside Dhaka.

The prime minister's information adviser further said that the actual data behind the claims published about load shedding during the Awami League government and the interim government will also be made public. Work on collecting information in this regard is underway, and the relevant data may be provided next week.
