Under the supervision of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, catching, transporting, selling and stockpiling jatka will be completely prohibited during this period. According to the law, violating this ban carries a maximum punishment of two years' rigorous imprisonment, a fine of up to Tk 5 lakh, or both. This step has been taken so that the fry produced after the recent mother hilsa conservation campaign can grow safely. The Department of Fisheries, in cooperation with law enforcement agencies including the Navy, Coast Guard and Naval Police, will strictly enforce this ban across the country.
