The DNCC Administrator said that although the city corporation is providing services to citizens, city dwellers must be aware in order to make the canal cleaning, beautification and greening initiatives successful. Under the Footsteps initiative, the Paris Canal will be cleaned for the next three days. After that, the local residents must take responsibility for keeping it clean. Criticizing the dumping of waste indiscriminately into the canal from multi-storey buildings and the damaging of newly constructed roads, he said that, with the cooperation of the people, it has been possible to keep the footpath at Mirpur-10 roundabout free from occupation. If this awareness continues, it will be possible to build a visually appealing Dhaka.

Regarding the demarcation of the canal boundary and the eviction of illegal structures, he said the boundary demarcation work is almost at the final stage. Once the work is completed, illegal structures will be evicted and a walkway will be constructed beside the canal. He also informed about the plan to install a dustbin beside the Paris Canal for waste disposal. At the same time, he urged every house and business establishment to place a dustbin in front of it on their own initiative.
