Earlier, at around 6 am, the blockade supporters began picketing by burning tires at various points on the Sajek road. Considering the situation and for the safety of tourists, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi imposed a temporary ban on travel to Sajek from 7 pm on Wednesday (October 21) until further notice.

According to local sources, two local organisations blockaded the Sajek road on October 11 with a three-point demand. Although the blockade was relaxed from October 16 to 21 for Durga Puja, it resumed after the holidays ended. Suparna Deb Barman, president of the Sajek Resort and Cottage Owners Association, said that tourists being forced to leave Sajek before the holidays ended has caused them suffering as well as major financial losses for local traders, resort owners, and the transport sector.
