Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam MP has laid the foundation stone of the Kunderbazar Bridge over the Ichamati River in Munshiganj. The foundation stone laying ceremony was held on Sunday (8 November) at 3pm in the Kunderbazar area of the Munshiganj (Chhanbari)-Kunderbazar-Sreenagar road.
Present at the ceremony were Munshiganj-2 MP Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Munshiganj-3 MP Kamruzzaman Ratan, Munshiganj-1 MP Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Reserved Women's Seat-328 MP Mamtaz Alo. Senior officials of various government institutions, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at different levels, and journalists from print and electronic media were also present.
The modern and sustainable Kunderbazar Bridge is being built to replace the old, dilapidated and risky Bailey bridge over the Ichamati River at the 6th kilometre of the Munshiganj (Hasara)-Kunderbazar-Sreenagar (Chhanbari) district highway (Z-8004). The bridge will be constructed under the Roads and Highways Department's 'Replacement of Dilapidated, Narrow Bailey Bridges and RCC Bridges at Important Points (Dhaka Zone)' project.

The cost of constructing the bridge, fully funded by the government (GoB), has been set at Tk 68 crore 38 lakh 50 thousand. The proposed package period is from June 2026 to December 2027. The steel composite structure bridge will have a total length of 151.90 metres and a width of 10.30 metres. Alongside the two-lane bridge, there are plans to build 600 metres of approach road.
Once built, travel for people in Munshiganj, Tongibari and Sirajdikhan upazilas and surrounding areas will become safer, easier and smoother. Transport of goods will save time and cost, and the area's communication with the capital Dhaka and other regions of the country will become easier.
The road is of special importance for transporting agricultural products — including potatoes, paddy, wheat, mustard and seasonal vegetables produced in Munshiganj and surrounding areas — to other regions of the country. The new bridge will make transport of agricultural and commercial goods easier and will play a positive role in expanding local agriculture, trade and commerce, and overall economic activity.
