The minister said these things in his speech as chief guest at a workshop organized by the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC). He said that although self-sufficiency has been achieved in farmed fish, natural breeding grounds are under threat due to climate change and unawareness. To overcome this crisis, he directed scientists to intensify research on developing indigenous fish breeds, restoring endangered species, and safe fish production. The minister also mentioned the target of exporting sufficient fish abroad while maintaining quality.
