Playground to be built within a month at evicted drug hangout site: DSCC administrator

He made the announcement at a ceremony held after inspecting tree plantation, waste management, mosquito control, footpath and road development activities in the Bangladesh Bank Colony area adjacent to Faridabad on Thursday (October 8).

The DSCC administrator said government land had been occupied and an illegal slum built there for about 48 to 50 years. The place was known as a center for drug hangouts and sales. After the eviction, a playground for children and adolescents and a new road in the adjacent area will be built there. If there is enough space, there are also plans to build a community center.

He said the new playground will be inaugurated after one month. Thanking police officers for their cooperation in the eviction drive, he called on local residents and youths to cooperate with the administration to build a drug-free area.

The DSCC administrator said development work worth Tk 11 crore is currently ongoing in Ward No. 47. Work worth another Tk 4 crore has been newly approved. As a result, development work worth a total of Tk 15 crore is underway in the ward.

During the inspection, he took part in tree plantation at the evicted site and larviciding activities at Bangladesh Bank Colony. He called for keeping one's own yards clean and not allowing water to accumulate for more than three days to prevent dengue.

At the time, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin, DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahabubur Rahman Talukder, Chief Health Officer Dr. Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman and Wari Zone Deputy Police Commissioner Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami, among others, were present.
