He said this at the inauguration event of the excavation and development project of Dhanmondi Lake in the capital on Tuesday (September 6).
Autorickshaw movement permitted under policy: Road Minister
The minister said a disciplined system needs to be developed regarding the movement of battery-powered autorickshaws. Under the policy, matters of training, licenses and route permits will be considered.
Meanwhile, leaders of owners and workers have warned of paralyzing the capital if battery-powered rickshaws are banned or widely seized. They also announced a siege of the concerned electricity office if power connections to charging stations are disconnected.

The protesters demanded that instead of completely banning rickshaws, drivers be given training and valid licenses and route permits. They also demanded that owners who have been involved in the business for a long time be given the opportunity to legalize their vehicles after verification.
At the event, regarding the development of Dhanmondi Lake, the minister said about Tk 83 crore will be spent on various works including excavation and beautification. Under the project, there are plans to build ‘Nazrul Stage’ and make arrangements for a library and cultural events there.
