Iranian President calls for stronger diplomatic initiative from India

He made the call during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and ‘Shanghai Plus’ summit in Kyrgyzstan.

Pezeshkian thanked India for its support to Iran during the recent US-Israeli aggression. He said Iran's policy has always been to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation and to ensure peace and stability.

He alleged that the United States has chosen the path of force and conflict instead of a diplomatic solution. However, Iran is still interested in resolving unresolved issues through agreements and mutual understanding.

On the other hand, Modi said India has tried to maintain communication and cooperation with Iran even in difficult times. Referring to Pezeshkian as a peace-loving leader, he praised his efforts in establishing peace.

The meeting also discussed further strengthening transport and maritime cooperation between the two countries, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Chabahar Port, economic and commercial relations, and strategic cooperation.
