Brazil fines TikTok $30 million for failing to protect children's data

The authority said TikTok collected and processed personal data of a large number of minors without adequate protection and a valid legal basis. Weaknesses were also found in the age verification system.

In addition to the fine, TikTok has been ordered to delete illegally collected data and take effective measures to protect children's data. The company has been given 10 days to appeal the decision.

Brazil's regulatory agency has specifically expressed concern over TikTok's ‘logged-out feed’ feature. In this system, content can be viewed without an account, and it has been alleged that minors can use the platform while bypassing age verification.
