August 5 is the victory day of democracy-seeking people: Prime Minister

In a message delivered on Wednesday (August 5) on the occasion of the 'July Mass Uprising Day', he said, "After ending the fascist rule that continued for more than one and a half decades, the valiant students and masses of the country achieved a historic victory on August 5, 2024. In the face of the mass uprising, the then government was forced to leave the country, and Bangladesh entered a new chapter."

The Prime Minister said, "This blood-soaked day of the valiant students and masses is being celebrated nationally as 'July Mass Uprising Day'. The martyrs sacrificed their lives in the struggle to establish democracy, human dignity and political rights, making the nation indebted to them. The state also has responsibilities toward every martyr's family."

He said, "Ensuring the political and economic empowerment of the people and building a just, self-reliant, democratic and humane Bangladesh through the establishment of equality, human dignity and social justice is the real tribute to the martyrs."

In the message, the Prime Minister further said, "The national unity built on the blood of thousands of martyrs must be preserved at any cost. There will be differences of opinion in democracy, but all political parties, individuals and groups must play a responsible role so that those differences do not turn into discord or enmity."

Expressing firm determination, he said, "Bangladesh will never again allow the rise of autocracy, fascism, extremism or radicalism." He also mentioned that the country will never be allowed to become a state under the influence of any foreign power.

At the end of the message, the Prime Minister said, "1971 was the war to achieve independence, and 2024 was the struggle to protect the independence of the country and its people. Just like the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971, the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising of 2024 will forever be remembered by the nation with respect."
