Government depriving opposition MPs: Dr. Mahmuda Mitu

She made this allegation in a special guest speech at a roadside meeting and rally organized as part of the NCP's centrally declared nationwide 'July March' program at the Bypass Mor of Rajapur upazila in Jhalokati on Sunday (July 19) afternoon.

Dr. Mahmuda Alam Mitu said that after being elected as a member of parliament for the reserved women's seat, the people of Rajapur-Kathalia had new expectations of development. But because she is an opposition MP, she cannot bring any development allocation to the area.

She said that among the 50 members of parliament for reserved women's seats, the government has given various development allocations to 37. However, 13 women MPs from the opposition have been completely deprived.

Raising a question, she said, the Prime Minister herself talks about doing politics with everyone. If that policy is truly followed, then why are the elected representatives of the opposition being deprived of allocations?

Commenting that this behavior of the government is indicative of political discrimination, Dr. Mitu said, such activities prove that the government wants to maintain the continuity of the political culture of the Awami League era. Not only the government, but the behavior of the ruling party MPs also clearly shows that tendency.

Raising the issue of development in Jhalokati district including Rajapur-Kathalia, she said the road infrastructure condition of the district is very poor. Although there are four MPs here, necessary development allocations are not being given. She alleged that because she is a representative of the opposition, she is facing discrimination in development activities.

She said, even without allocations, her political struggle to secure the rights of the people will continue.

Regarding the organizational activities of the NCP, Dr. Mitu said that the National Citizen Party, formed from the spirit of the July movement, has been talking about a new kind of politics from the beginning. The public support the party has gained in just two years is a significant success for a new political party.

She further said that her younger brother Arifur Rahman Tuhin played an important role in the anti-Hasina movement. Many who took part in the movement and struggle have become MPs and ministers today, but in terms of allocations, the comrades of the movement are being deprived.

Also speaking at the rally were NCP's southern region chief coordinator and MP Hasnat Abdullah, political council member Ali Ahsan Junayed, central joint convener Sarwar Tushar, joint chief coordinator Md. Arifur Rahman Tuhin, Rajapur upazila NCP president Shahriar Shakil, along with central and local leaders.
